One of our Client is searching for a REMOTE Technical Writer for a Public Transportation client based in Seattle, Washington. The primary responsibility of this Technical Writer is to create and maintain team documentation for the Portfolio Services Office. Additionally, this position is responsible for translating technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences.

This Technical Writer is responsible for producing IT documents, some processes, procedures and guidance documents. There will also be a number of technical documents related to construction engineering disciplines like civil, structure, and systems (mechanical, electrical, etc.). It is important that candidate’s be able to adapt easily to a non-IT environment and work.

This is a short-term contract opportunity that would be 100% remote. If candidates are local to the Seattle area, that would be a plus!

Essential Functions:
• Meeting with engineers and project managers to establish goals and expectations for technical documents.
• Takes the initiative to conduct interviews with technical individuals to obtain information and relevant details for writing assignments.
• Makes recommendations for content organization, story flow, tone, and voice
• Researching available templates and using them as appropriate.
• Edits, proofreads, and validates documents to ensure that quality and content objectives are met. Reviews and clarifies content with subject-matter experts. Formatting content as appropriate for its intended audience
• Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and removal of conflicting references
• Maintains all documents in common repository and communicates with the team accordingly.
• Publishes documents into a secure system according to security guidelines and corporate procedures. May publish documents on Intranet using SharePoint software.
• Translates complex technical topics into written communications that are clear, concise, accessible, and understandable by technical and non-technical individuals.
• Analyzes the target audience and adapts written information to their needs, priorities, and limitations.
• Works as an editor and provides constructive criticism.
• Ensures publication deadlines are met for all communication materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• At least 3 years of experience in a relevant Technical Writer role
• Experience writing content for various uses (award/grant applications, white papers, technical papers, training modules, etc.)
• Proficient in using MS Office products for creating documentation (Word, Visio, SharePoint, etc.)
• Experience editing engineering documents
• Ability to translate technical information into easily comprehended end products
• Ability to adapt easily to a non-IT environment and work
• Experience publishing and managing documentation SharePoint
• Knowledge of standard editing conventions
• Nice to haves: Skilled with the Chicago Manual of Style, the Associated Press Stylebook, and/or CSI Master format
