Overview:

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities:

The Remote Sensing Laboratory Division (RSL), located on Nellis Air Force Base, seeks a talented individual to support the RSL as a Senior Technical Writer.


Key Responsibilities

  • Research and collect classified and unclassified background information and technical data needed to write technical reports; analyzes the information for relevancy and rewrites the information in a clear, concise manner to meet authoritative organizational requirements for producing an unclassified report.
  • Write, edit, and develop technical documents for approval to publish.
  • Ensure that documents meet company-established quality standards and are completed on time.
  • Design and prepare graphics by graphics specialist for use in documents.
  • Coordinate with all levels of management to resolve problems that affect company procedure workflow and quality.
  • Interface, on a routine basis, with professional contacts at DOE, DNA, contractors, and the national laboratories to obtain specific subject matter expertise required to prepare special technical reports.
  • Perform related work assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent training and experience and at least 5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.
  • Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines.
  • Able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
  • Able to follow oral and written instruction and follow through on all assignments.
  • Able to deal with pressure of handling multiple tasks, complaints, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Familiar with software applications used in the position.
  • Able to delegate, direct, and supervise work of assigned personnel.
  • Flexible work schedule can be negotiated with the manager; employees can work 5/8’s, 9/80’s or 4/10’s work-weeks.
  • The primary work location will be based at the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV (RSL-N).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
